Virtual Hugs, Real Prayers

It's been a rough week for Casey, Ashley and Jared. One week ago, life was normal, whatever "normal" is. Now their lives have been changed forever, as well as those who know and love them.

When Kristopher called and said, "Mom, something happened..." I thought he might have dented his dad's pickup truck. I thought, "No big deal..." Then he began to tell me about the accident. Like everyone else, I'm sure, I could hardly believe it, and wanted as much as he did, to be in three places at once to be with Casey, Ashley and Jared.

There are so many things for which to be thankful:
1. The accident happened near home, and near a hospital.
2. Mercy flights were available for Casey and Jared.
3. Prayers could go up immediately on behalf 0f "our kids."
4. Ashley's family was back from vacation.
5. Emergency response equipment was available to rescue them.
6. We have modern medical technology to save their lives and improve their recovery.
7. We can communicate immediately by cell phone (and internet) rather than waiting to be by a home phone (or rely on post office mail).
7. It happened on a weekend and people could visit.
8. It could have been so much worse!

I know the road ahead will be long, and not at all what these three special people had planned for their lives, but we will all continue to keep them in our prayers and support them.

Big Green Guy

Remember the "Incredible Hulk" story? Today they treated Casey with a dose of radiation to make certain that the bones grow correctly with all the new "hardware" they placed in him. He is, at noon, visiting with Ashley and her family. (Ashley was released this morning, now that her jaw work is complete.)

Casey reports that he doesn't feel much pain--less than he expected--but that it gets worse when he must move his left leg (therapy, sponge baths, etc.)

Today, the first staff person actually mentioned going home. He didn't set a date, but Casey was excited just to hear the words.

Opening Message

Lots of people have asked about Ashley, Casey, and Jared. We started this so each family can post updates for friends and family to check on them. Check regularly, but understand that updates may be delayed depending on family ability, internet access, etc.

Thank you all for your care and prayer.

Early Sunday morning (Aug. 12th) Casey was driving in front of the Bath hospital with Ashley and Jared as passengers following a head on crash Jared was airlifted to Elmira (Arnot-Ogden) and Casey was airlifted to Rochester (Strong Memorial). After starting at Ira Davenport, Ashley was taken by ambulance to Rochester (Strong Memorial).

We have been informed that the driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken foot and finger. No other passengers in the other vehicle were injured.

Casey went through a long surgery and longer recovery yesterday (Monday 13th.) He had pins and plates installed in his left leg and pelvis. Today, already, before noon they had him in physical therapy--and moving to sit in a chair. The left side of his body was significantly damaged. He has over one-hundred stitches to his shoulder, arm, and face. His nose and his face bone under the left eye are also broken.

That's the latest on Casey, check back later for an update on all three.
